Why we're getting behind Khalid and London 2012.
We are delighted to announce that we are now supporting local boxer, Khalid Yafai, as he attempts to qualify for the London 2012 Olympic Games.
Following the appointment of BMW Group as the Official Automotive Partner of the 2012 Games, BMW is now actively supporting British athletes, such as Ellie Simmonds and Louis Smith, via the BMW London 2012 Performance Team. Meanwhile, in line with the Performance Team initiative, BMW dealers like us will be working with local athletes, supporting their endeavours to qualify for Team GB or ParalympicsGB.
Birmingham-born Khalid trains in Sheffield with the GB team. In the 2008 Beijing Olympics, aged 19, he punched his way to the last sixteen, overcoming a much more experienced field of boxers.
‘This is just so great,’ said Khalid. ‘I can't thank Park Lane and MINI enough. I spend a lot of time driving to and from training sessions and driving to events ahead of London 2012 so having a brand new car is amazing. Suddenly, I'm the envy of all my friends!’
‘We're really pleased to be backing Khalid, said Mark Hickman, Dealer Principal at Sytner Birmingham. ‘Attempting to qualify for the London 2012 Games can't be easy so we're more than happy to help in any way we can. It's also a great opportunity for everyone connected with the dealership to get more involved with the 2012 Games.’
